19th February,2016 (Day-1)
Pranshu Khanna, Miten Kashiyani and Me, we are from BITS edu Campus study in EC, pranshu and miten are there on morning 8am after sometime I reached there and join them at dot 9AM at the footprints venue, we had some time before other Mozilla team arrives, so we decide to see the campus and different-different events. Here are some pictures that we clicked and enjoy a lot.
My purpose of visiting footprints was only for knowledge i didn’t expect that this opportunity meet me, actually Rahul bhaiya want 2 member from local community Vadodara so miten and pranshu was selected two member, when we reached the booth Rahul bhaiya saw me and ask that these guy is from your community? miten says yes he is fsa and just join bitfox club, Rahul bhaiya said hire him i need 1 more volunteer for organizing these all things, it was such a big opportunity for me for a part of this amazing journey. Around 12 pm, we started the booth. The crowds’ response was totally amazing, they were waiting outside when we started and explained what all these is about.
People asked many questions about Mozilla, Firefox OS, What is FSA, How to open a club, Mozilla community etc. While Rahul bhaiya answered to all questions, Miten and Pranshu managed other people. At the back – booth, Dipesh bhaiya and I packed the kit (kit was provided by us) to ensure that all the components and parts were there the kit. Then the rush increased so I joined Miten and Pranshu and noted down the information of interested students for FSA sign up. I gave a swag to every student who were interested to become an FSA.
After that had lunch, provided by the footprints team. while lunch we discussed about the activities done in the Mozilla Leadership Summit held in Singapore. rahul bhaiya is a part of that summit.
We visited the different parts of the footprints where different events were going on. Then we packed up the booth and all the materials and went to guest house to get freshen up. Then we went off to attend guest lecture by Chris Korn (The Illusionist) at MSU medical college.
Then we get back to guest house and prepared for next day’s workshop. First we reassembled the kit and checked the material. After all preparation, we went for dinner.
20th February,2016 (Day-2)
On next day, we all reached the venue where workshop was to be conducted. We met other other Mozillians named Drashti Pandaya(from Ahmadabad) , Vishnu Theja (from surat) and our senior Ram Dayal. 120+ students were already seating and waiting for us, all were very excited and were having a curious and glittered face. I was happy to see full attendance. We had 38 teams, and each team had 3 members. First we introduced ourselves and then start the event Web of Things and Firefox OS. Rahul Talreja started workshop day 1 with speaking about Mozilla Community, Then after we distributed the kit and explained about its components.
After that Ram bhaiya came and they gave a little introduction to Internet of things (IoT) and its future scope.IoT is the best platform in future there are so many activity covered in IoT, recently Intel lunch their IoT with Intel developer kit,After that we had an exam of Digital Communication so we went off from MSU and came back after exam in the evening. On day 1 of workshop most of all the participants were ready with the boat and it was beautifully working as well. It was good to see happy faces when students really made it with Arduino, Ultrasonic Sensor, L293D driver IC and motors.
Then we provided a program and programming software that loaded an Arduino and that stuff made the boat alive! All the participants loaded the program on microcontroller and completed their tasks, they make a robot which sensed obstacle and wall in their way and automatically turned the other way.
After the successful completion of day 1 workshop, we went to the guest house and took some rest and went for a dinner.
21th February,2016 (Day-3)
9AM at workshop, a day started with solving participants queries regarding the robot, after solving all those problem we started the session planned for that day. We let the participants understand how to control the robot that they made with wireless data transmission and using a Wi-Fi module. Ram bhaiya talked about Internet of Things deeply, and what we can do with these and students were super excited to implement their ideas using Internet of things (IoT).
After that Rahul bhaiya told us about the security of web and what are the solution of that, And lastly we ended the day up by detailing about Mozilla Gujarat Community and how can they get involved in it. The students were excited to join it. So many students wanted to get involved with our local community and some of them wanted to open a club in their college. We provided our contact numbers and information about how these all is possible.
we did it, all robot in working condition and the participates are also satisfied.
The proud moment of being in Mozilla community and the power and value of open source we all again experienced, when Mr Throop took his phone out for having a snap with us. And we had a word with him about Mozilla and its open source and he was truly impressed and told us that I also do use ‘Firefox’ Browser and I love it.
